Construction Well Underway At The Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House
Construction at the Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House in Baltimore County is well underway and is revitalizing the site of the former Calvert distillery. If you’ve been by the site, next to the intersection of Interstates 195 and 895, you may have seen it bustling with construction workers.
Working with our partners JLL and local construction group, Plano Coudon, we are making great strides towards renovating ‘Warehouse D’, an old rackhouse used for aging barrels of whiskey, as our visitor center and the home of our experimental brewery, and the old bottling hall which will house our 100HL brewery.
“Despite the harsh Baltimore winter the structural and groundworks are progressing well on the new brewery and visitor center at Relay,” said Tom Joyce, Engineering Excellence Director at Diageo. “The fit-out has been designed and most elements have been ordered for installation and opening in summer. The GEA 100hl Blonde brewery equipment has arrived on site and is being installed and assembled for commissioning in April.”
“But while there’s been lots done, there’s plenty more to do!” Tom added.
Everyone involved in the project is delighted to see so much progress being made and thirsty to taste the beer that will be brewed on the two brewing systems being installed. We’re on track to open fully later on this year.
But if you don’t want to wait until the main brewery is opened to taste Guinness beer brewed onsite, swing by the Test Taproom open Thurs-Sun every week to try experimental beer we’re already brewing on our 2 barrel system.
